PRESS RELEASE FROM DAN CLEARY 2008 MCF CYCLOCROSS CRY SERIES MN Cyclocross is just around the corner and its huge this year. We have dates filled from mid-Sept through mid-Nov for every weekend. INTENT OF THE SERIES: The intent of the CRY Series is to determine the best overall racer in their appropriate category, as well as to encourage participation in most, but not all, of the events. It's a 'best 8 races' series to allow for a bad day, other commitments, etc., without affecting your placing...but like a raffle, the more you participate, the better your chance of winning! Appropriate Category - At all events there will be either 3 or 4 races (see below for specifics) that count towards CRY; some promoters may also be hosting separate races (singlespeed, kids races, etc.). Racers can participate in these or any other offered by the promoter but they don’t count towards CRY results. You must have a USAC Cyclocross (one-day or annual) license to participate, but one-day license holders may only race in the CX 4 races, and Junior races for Juniors. CATEGORIES: We've changed up the categories this year. Nothing is ever perfect but these ones try to address matching the abilities of riders and estimated size of field. Note that most of the larger races will use a 4 Race Format and the smaller races will use a 3 Race Format.Remember the MN State CX race is NOT a CRY event and may and likely will offer other/more categories for the MN State CX races. SCORING: 1st = 20pts, 2nd = 17, 3rd = 15, 4th = 13, 5th = 11, 6th = 10, 7th = 9, 8th = 8, (No participation points). Best 8 of your series races, with no minimum amount of races required. If upgrading to a higher category, points from your lower category races will not move up with you. You will only be eligible for one category award (1st - 3rd), and it will be for the highest race category in which you participated.Tie-Breakers: USCF Rule Book for Omniums (202) [a set of races in which riders compete for points...] 'In case of a tie on total points, the tie will be broken in favor of the rider who has: a) The most first place finishes or, if still tied, the most second place finishes, etc., or if still tied; b) The highest placing in the last race, or the race nearest the last race of the omnium in which at least one of the tied riders placed.' UPGRADES: Read the upgrade guidelines. They come along quickly. Once again, Matt Anderson approves these but only through submitting the request at www.usacycling.orgAll the cool kids request their upgrades well prior to the start of the season. Be a cool kid, don't make Matt's life miserable by requesting an upgrade at the event directly with Matt. More details are here Cyclocross CX Categorization Guidelines - Upgrades http://www.usacycling.org/news/user/story.php?id=2627 RACING AGE: IMPORTANT - Your Cyclocross age is your racing age in 2009 (2008 +1yr) THIS CAUSED A HUGE ISSUE IN THE PAST, ESPECIALLY AT THE JUNIOR LEVEL. YOU AS A RIDER/GUARDIAN ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR CORRECTLY CATEGORIZING. FIGURE IT OUT AND ASK FOR HELP BUT REMEMBER, GET IT WRONG AND IT COULD COST YOU YOUR RESULT AND SERIES POINTS. Here are two examples: - Bill is currently 14 but turns 15 on November 14, 2009. His racing age for the 2008 CX season is FIFTEEN (15) - Andy is currently 39 but turns 40 on June 7, 2009. His racing age for the 2008 CX season is FORTY (40) |
